Rock the Socks is an organization that sells fashionable socks.  The iniquities of the organization in in two areas, (1) the bold and color designs and (2) the fact that each purchase from this organization supports a specific ’cause’ or organization that is bettering others.  Specifically, there are three different organization that receive funds from Rock the Socks.  They are: Corazon De Vida (CDV), a U.S. non-profit organization that provides life sustaining support for over 750 children at 14 Baja, Mexico orphanages. CDV provides orphaned, homeless and abandoned children residing in Baja with funds for housing, food, education and social programs. Día de Muertos.  Two years ago I had the pleasure of living in Mexico City during the 1st of November which oversees the celebration of Dia De Los Muertos.  An odd and perceptively dark celebration to outsiders.  It is a tradition that can be traced back to the very first indigenous people that originally occupied Mexico City, better known then as Tenochtitlan, some 3,000 years ago. To be permanently marked with a scar, you must first suffer a wound.  However physically or mentally traumatic this process may be, it is important to remember, that with suffering and pain comes strength and enlightenment.  The most hopeless and hurtful moments bring life’s greatest opportunities for advancement. Scars, are in no way more suggestive of the vulnerability that makes us mortal, as they are the embodiment of the resiliency that makes the human spirit enduring.  Much longer lasting than agony, is the courageous decision to accept negative as temporary and out of it, create a positive mark on the world.  A scar if you will… a scar of hope. I am Los Angeles

If you ever forget how extraordinary Los Angeles is, watch the sun rise up just once from Griffith Observatory.  View Los Angeles from an overly comfortable distance as the microcosm it really is.  Just 469 square miles of an urban/beach paradise with a Subtropical-Mediterranean climate and something special in the air.  Your eyes will initially be pulled to the concrete and glass jungle that makes up Downtown LA.  It is perceptively cold and motionless on this particular Sunday morning.  I suppose even major cities are entitled to sleep in now and again. At hardly a glance away you cannot help but focus on the much smaller but brightly illuminated streets of Hollywood.  It gives off the buzz of a scene just after a crime.  It is obvious that at some point not very long ago a smoldering fire of entertainment was burning with excitement.  Now all that’s left is a grey haze of its final die hard ashes.  To the far west you gaze into the visual eternity that is the Pacific Ocean.  Harmonious swells that have traveled incalculable distances finally break into waves and come crashing home into the Santa Monica sand.  Underlining all these regions is the sprawling […] Read More
As long as man has walked the earth so has the need to aesthetically improve the surroundings he encompasses.  From the first cave dwellers to the indigenous origins of any culture, drawings were scribbled on rocks as a form of warning, homage, or simply to tell a story.  It was communication in its most raw non-verbal form. At its most basic point art is simply the act of reproducing an image for others to see.  But its essence is heavily invested in personal expression and point of view.  With every finished canvas the artist tells us a little more about who they are and what they see. The artist is a dreamer and a creator.  A visionary that finds splendor in the things we all take for granted.  They see potential in the simple, a sunset is never just a sunset it is a loud scream that moves them to paint as they do.  Their resiliency is based on their hopelessly and utterly idealistic views.  They know nothing else but to believe in the best our humanity has to offer.  That point of view is what makes an artist more than just a person with a brush.  They are optimistic souls […] Read More
At birth everyone begins with a clean slate and an unbiased relationship with the world that surrounds us.  Slowly over time while we mature we are positively (or negatively) influenced by our given surroundings and the people closest to us.  While these influences are crucial for survival they may begin to derail our identity from the true impulses that were meant to define us and our actions.
